What is padel tennis?
Padel tennis, often referred to simply as "padel," is a racquet sport that combines elements of tennis and squash. It is typically played in doubles on an enclosed court about a third of the size of a tennis court. The game originated in Mexico in the 1960s and has since gained popularity worldwide, especially in Europe and North America.
What is the difference between padel and tennis?
- Court Size: Padel courts are smaller than tennis courts, making the game more accessible.
- Walls: Padel courts are enclosed by walls, which players can use to bounce the ball off during play.
- Scoring: Padel tennis typically follows the same scoring system as tennis, but with some minor differences in terminology.
- Serving: Padel tennis allows for an underhand serve, which must be hit underarm and below waist level.
Who can play padel tennis?
EVERYONE! Padel tennis is suitable for players of all ages and skill levels. Because of its smaller court size and simplified rules, it is often considered easier to pick up than tennis, making it a great option for beginners. Additionally, the enclosed court design makes it an ideal sport for socialising and doubles play.
